The Machno Stud
The Machno Stud is situated on a unique hill farm in the rural village of Penmachno. Founded in the 70's by Meirion Jones. Since then Meirion has continually improved and developed his stock, by maintaining strong bloodlines and systematically adding new genetics to compliment his existing stock thus strengthen different aspects of his ponies. With predominantly welsh stock and influences from Oldenburg and Thoroughbred bloodlines. Meirion has a view to produce quality workmanlike ponies that don’t just have powerful movement and scope that are also keen to learn, intelligent and have the spark that is needed to succeed at the top level
He was particularly fond of the cross between Carregoch Bleddyn on Minffordd Democrat daughters or vice versa. This continues to this day he now has a 3yo colt out of a Bleddyn daughter by a Democrat grandson.
Meirion strives to create not just the perfect stamp of pony but to also give them the best possible foundation to have successful competition careers. The Stud is managed in a traditional way, with the stallions in the fields running with their mares and foals. Great care is taken to ensure that all of these young ponies have a wide base of positive experiences that serve to enrich their development. This care and diligence produces confident ponies that are curious to investigate the world around them. When old enough they are moved into groups in the hills, where they get to explore vast areas and learn to use their mind as they experience different environments and terrain.
Over the years this foundation and careful breeding at the Machno Stud has lead to international success, most notably with Machno Carwyn the leading show jumping pony stallion of all time, twice winning individual Gold at the European Pony Championships - 2000 Hagen, Germany - 2001 Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. Machno bloodlines have reached all corners of globe across all disciplines, from Europe to North America, New Zealand and Australia.
