Our Breeding Stock
At the heart of our breeding programme lies a strong foundation of Welsh stock, carefully selected for their athleticism, temperament, and versatility. We have favoured crosses between Carregoch Bleddyn for his carefulness and Minffordd Democrat for his boldness. This cross has produced ponies with exceptional movement, scope, and rideability. These lines are further enhanced by the influence of elite performance breeds: the elegance and elasticity of Oldenburgs by Rossgold Sunstar, the speed and refinement of Thoroughbreds by Relmo, and the power and presence of Trakehners by Singing Maester Bo. Each breed contributes unique qualities, resulting in outstanding sports ponies that excel in all disciplines from eventing to show jumping and dressage, while maintaining the hardiness and character that make them a joy to work with.

Machno Safir -Senior Stallion
Machno Safir offers the best of both worlds: the courage, surefootedness and intelligence of the Welsh Cob through the Minffordd Democrat line. Blended with a proven Oldenburg engine for sport. From his Oldenburg side he carries Sunny Boy (by Sandro Hit out of Fantastica, the full sister to Don Schufro), Weltmeyer and Ramiro Z a combination that combines three of modern dressage’s most reliable sources of talent: Sandro Hit, Donnerhall and Rubinstein.
These lines don’t just read well on paper—they win in the ring. Sandro Hit has produced multiple Olympic medal horses, including Germany’s Showtime FRH (team gold) and the USA’s Salvino (team silver), with numerous grand-offspring at championship level. Donnerhall remains a foundational sire, celebrated for passing on rideability and the strength for collection to generations of Grand Prix horses. Don Schufro adds even more class—he sired Weihegold OLD, Isabell Werth’s partner for Olympic team gold and multiple World Cup titles—while the Rubinstein family is renowned for trainability and a record of Grand Prix performers (e.g., Rubin Royal and his successful progeny). Put simply: these are bloodlines that consistently produce rideable, talented horses that go on to succeed at the top.
For breeders and riders looking at Safir’s progeny, expect elegant frames, uphill canters, elastic shoulders and sane, workmanlike temperaments Welsh heart with Oldenburg scope. Whether your goal is dressage, show jumping or a quality all-round eventer, Machno Safir’s foals tick the boxes for movement, mind and market appeal.

Our
Philosophy
We believe that natural herd dynamics play a vital role in producing well-balanced, mentally sound ponies. Each stallion is kept in large, open paddocks alongside his mares, allowing for a more relaxed and instinctive breeding environment. This approach not only reduces stress but also encourages strong social bonds and natural behaviour, which contributes to the overall wellbeing of both mares and foals. Stallions thrive in this setting, displaying calm leadership and passing on their temperament and confidence to their offspring. It’s a philosophy rooted in respect for the horse’s nature, and it shows in the quality and character of the ponies we produce.
We also take a gentle, foal-focused approach to weaning, where we can allowing our youngsters to remain with their dams longer than conventional programmes. By delaying weaning until the foals are little older and more mentally mature, we help them develop resilience, independence, and social skills in a low-stress environment. This gradual transition supports better emotional stability and reduces the risk of behavioural issues later in life. Our foals are weaned in familiar surroundings, often alongside peers, which further eases the process and sets them up for success as confident, well-adjusted young ponies ready to begin their training journey.
